TMHOTW: Neotyrannus Veronis

North America houses three gigantic continental hearts. But for the north western heart, the last time it became open enough to allow large animals to enter it was 75 million years ago. The famed Tyrannosaurus Rex became extinct on the surface of our world. But below him, a new predator had evolved. Neotyrannus Veronis (Veronica's New Tyrant, after the explorer who discovered the species) is a descendant of Daspletosaurus of the late cretaceous period.  It is also the largest Tyrannosaur of all time. Measuring up to 50 feet long, and weighing 9 tons. The subterranean conditions may have contributed to its increase in size, as the climate is fairly similar to the tropical rain-forests on the surface today. Their diet is also slightly different. Here, they've had to adapt to be equally good at scavenging as well as predation. Though it's unclear as to how, there are sauropods living along side them, and it appears they specialize in hunting young ones. This, along with them going after scores of other animals, has landed them a place as Apex predators of North America's underground.
