Description

We've already gone over the Tzunkas in a previous post, so, I won't discuss them too much here. But it should be noted that they aren't the only members of this group. In fact, there is another, and they are just as strange and other worldly.

These creatures are called Ribbons, as declared in 1954. It's a combination of Raptor and Gibbon. Why? Well because 1, it sounded better than Raptor Ape, but secondly they fit the lifestyle and morphology of a gibbon rather well.

But how are they so different from the Tzunkas? Well, unlike the tzunkas, who have a very flexible torso, Ribbons are a lot more rigged. But they're also more squat, giving them a more focused center of gravity. A handy feature when you're swinging through the trees all day. The reason they evolved this mode of transport has to do with their diet. Most ribbons like to eat fruit, and they will travel many miles each day just to get at known sources. So swinging was, for them, the most efficient means of getting through the canopy. But what if they need to get to the lower levels in a hurry? Not a problem. Ribbons still retain some of their primary feathers on their forelimbs, just like the Tzunkas. But they also retain their fan of tail feathers as well. When ready to jump, the sprawl their limbs, and feathers out, increasing their surface area as much as possible, which allows them to essentially parachute to the lower levels of the canopy. Combine that with a birds legendary sense of balance, and you have a very impressive tree dweller indeed.
